NCC Links Abuja Telecom Disruptions to Diesel Supply Challenges

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has attributed the recent deterioration in telecommunications services across parts of Abuja to disruptions in diesel supply, which have impacted base station operations.

 

In a statement issued by its Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, the Commission acknowledged that the quality of service (QoS) challenges have negatively affected subscribers’ experience. She explained that the disruptions have affected IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation company responsible for powering Airtel and MTN base stations in the affected areas.

 

According to the NCC, the diesel supply interruptions are linked to actions by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which resulted in reduced fuel delivery to telecom sites and subsequent service outages in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

 

Ukoha noted that the Commission is working closely with key stakeholders and licensed operators to address the situation. She emphasized the importance of a reliable power supply to the delivery of efficient telecommunications services and reaffirmed the NCC’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted communication for Nigerians.

 

The NCC, she said, is actively engaging relevant parties to resolve the diesel supply issues and is exploring sustainable solutions, while urging stakeholders to collaborate in removing the bottlenecks affecting fuel supply to critical telecom infrastructure.

 

Despite the ongoing challenges, the Commission reiterated its dedication to creating a supportive environment for the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. It is also facilitating dialogue between affected service providers and other stakeholders to achieve a swift resolution.

 

The NCC assured the public that it is managing the situation and will continue to provide updates on efforts to restore full services in Abuja, while thanking subscribers for their patience and understanding
