Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman wins 2024 African Player of the Year

Nigeria’s Ademola Lookma has won the Confederation of African Football Men’s Player of the Year.

 

The Nigerian star was named the African Player of the Year at the prestigious 2024 Confederation of African Football Awards held in Marrakesh, Morocco on Monday night.

 

The winners are voted for by a panel of experts which includes members of Caf’s technical committee plus African media professionals, players and coaches.

 

Nigeria has also officially become the country with the most CAF Player of the Year Award, winning the award seven times.

 

Nigeria is the only country to win the CAF POTY Award in 2 consecutive years on 3 occasions, with different players.

Côte d’Ivoire has won the award six times with Yaya Toure winning 4 times and Didier Drogba winning it twice.

 

While Cameroon has won the award 5 times. Former striker Samuel Etoo won the award 4 times and Patrick Mboma won it once.

 

Senegal has also won the award thrice. El Hadji Diouf won it twice and Saido Maine won it once.

 

While Abedi Pele of Ghana, Mustapha Hadji of Morocco, Kanoute of Mali, George Weah of Liberia, Riyad Mahrez of Algeria and Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo have all won the award once.
