Nigeria’s Port Harcourt Refinery fully operational, NNPC dismisses shutdown claims

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has reacted to claims that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery has been shut down, saying it was not true.

In a statement issued by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, NNPC Ltd clarified that the refinery, which resumed operations two months ago, is functioning optimally and urged the public to disregard the baseless reports.

“We wish to address recent claims circulating in certain sections of the media alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery, which resumed operations two months ago, has been shut down. These claims are entirely false,” Soneye stated.

He emphasized that the refinery remained fully operational, a fact confirmed during a recent inspection by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC.

“Preparations for daily loading operations are ongoing, further underscoring the refinery’s continued functionality,” he said.

Soneye urged the public to ignore the misleading reports, which he described as deliberate attempts by certain individuals to create artificial fuel scarcity and exploit Nigerians for personal gain.

“NNPC Ltd remains committed to ensuring the refinery’s sustained operations and the delivery of petroleum products to meet the nation’s demands,” he said.
