Dangote Refinery Expands Capacity to 1.4 Million Barrels Per Day

The Dangote Refinery has announced plans to expand its production capacity from 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.4 million bpd, positioning it to become the largest refinery in the world.

President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, disclosed this during a press briefing in Lagos on Sunday. He was joined by his long-time associate and Chairman of First Bank, Mr. Femi Otedola.

“We are expanding the Dangote Petroleum Refinery from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day. Upon completion, this will make it the largest refinery globally, surpassing the Jamnagar Refinery in India,” Dangote stated.

According to him, construction work on the expansion will commence immediately and is expected to be completed within three years. The project will create about 65,000 construction jobs, with 85 percent of the workforce comprising Nigerians.

Dangote also revealed plans to double the refinery’s power generation capacity from 500 megawatts (MW) to 1,000 MW and upgrade production standards from Euro 5 to Euro 6 specifications.

He further announced that the refinery would be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2026, allowing Nigerians to own shares in the landmark facility.

Dangote expressed his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support of the project.
