Career Awareness Day 2025: Breaking Cycle Africa Foundation engages students in Lagos

As part of its ongoing Career Awareness Day initiative, the Breaking Cycle Africa Foundation recently engaged students from Lagos Education District 1 Agege.

The program is organized to expose students to variety of careers in order to jumpstart their thinking about the future, by exploring career pathway and opportunities.

One of the series, planned to visit schools across to state was held at the Alimosho Junior Grammar School Lagos. The students participated in career quiz and gift giveaway; they were engaged with prepared set of career related questions. The organizer also distributed career related materials, brochures and equipment.

Speaking at the highly attended forum, the Program Coordinator and CEO Breaking Cycle Africa Foundation, Mrs Onome Odili, explained that it is an opportunity for representative from industries to provide career information to the young students, answer questions, and offer insights.

The participants were exposed to choosing the right career path, exploring career options and career roadmap.

The students were made to understand the distinction between vocational and professional careers, so as to make informed decision about their career path.

Addressing idea behind the program Mrs Odili noted that there is the need for young students to be properly guided in choosing their career path, by their Identifying interests, skills and strengths.

She emphasized the need for young students to be equipped with essential career skills in 2025 and beyond. According to her,” in today’s world mastering 21st century skills is crucial to thriving in any career, these include; communication and public speaking, digital and IT skills, Leadership and teamwork, Problem – solving and Critical thinking, entrepreneurship and innovation”

She further outlined the essence of the programme include; Career guidance and mentorship; provide participants with guidance on career planning, goal setting, and networking, offering mentorship opportunities or connect participants with professionals in their desired fields.

The Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary, Lagos Education district 1 Agege, Prince Bashir Adeoye Adebowale who was represented by Dr (Mrs) Olubukola Rosanwo, Director/Head of Counselling Unit, commended the initiative.

The Lead Consultant, Addefort Limited, Mr Olabamiji Adeleye, advised the students to make the best of their time by eschewing negative influence and all forms of social vices that can derail their academic and career pursuits.

The participated schools include; Alimosho Junior Grammar School, State Junior High School, Alimosho; State Senior College, Alimosho; State Senior High School, Alimosho; Alimosho Senior Grammar School and State Comprehensive Junior College.
